I Was Told To Cancel My Wedding Because My Sister Needed The Spotlight Much More2

Ms. Reyes explained everything in a steady voice. Sebastian had secured the canceled Saturday slot, but my father had paid the $18,000 deposit that locked it in, using a credit card in my name. The contract carried my signature on every page, and none of it was mine. The card was one I had opened years ago for my parents’ emergencies and forgotten to close. After reading the family chat, Philip had asked the club for the full booking file. His lawyers compared the signatures with my real one, and the manager canceled the party that night.

Dad finally cracked. A failed business loan had left him weeks behind on payments, yet he had promised Sebastian’s family a lavish party. He used my old card because he believed I would never check and would always forgive him. He had demanded I postpone the wedding because half the relatives could only attend one event, and he needed the party to look full. The statement arriving at my townhouse was what he truly feared.

Camille, standing beside Mom, whispered that she never knew about the card. She had only been told I agreed to step aside gladly. Mr. Langley stepped forward and apologized, saying Sebastian had refused to hold the party and would rebook a small dinner himself. He promised the law firm’s contract would be judged on merit, and that nobody had asked Lucas for any favor. Lucas’s phone, still on speaker, carried Philip’s voice confirming it, and adding that his company never punishes people for their family’s choices, only for their own.

I did not call the police. I told Dad he would repay every dollar in monthly payments, and that he would write me an apology by hand. Mom and Camille could attend my wedding if they sat where I placed them. Four weeks later, I married Lucas on the date we chose, and Dad cried through the vows from the third row. For the first time in my life, I was the main character.
