They Moved Into The House I Secretly Bought, Certain A Family Blessing Belonged To Them

Bianca slapped the folder down on the island. “This is a mistake. Your parents said this house was for us. Derek, tell her.” Derek looked at the deed, then at me, then at the floor, and said nothing, because there was nothing to say that the recorded title didn’t already contradict. “There’s no mistake,” I said calmly. “I found the listing eight months ago. I got pre-approved, I made the offer, I wired the down payment from an account none of you knew existed, and I closed last Tuesday. My name is the only name on anything. And the three of you decided a moving confirmation on a phone screen meant a million-four house was yours.” I looked around at the boxes, the sectional wedged in my doorway, the wedding photos leaning against my walls. “Nobody scammed you. You scammed yourselves, and you assumed I’d absorb it quietly like I always do.”
