My Stepmother Laughed While Sending Me To Economy Until The Captain Walked Down The Aisle2

My father’s message lasted six minutes. He explained that months before he died, he noticed money leaving Crestline Air’s maintenance budget for work that was never done. Every payment traced back to a consulting company he had founded, and each invoice was signed by Desmond, who had quietly taken over its accounts. Nearly $1.4 million had vanished. Dad was too sick to fight a long legal war, and he feared what the truth would do to me, so he set a quieter trap.

On his last night at home, he told Vivienne a deliberate lie. He said I was only an ordinary employee who would never read the books, never ask questions, and never know. She believed him, and that was the sentence she whispered to Chloe on the plane. He then left his executive travel profile and the consulting account open, because he knew greed would bring her back. Every ticket and fake invoice was recorded, and the message was set to play the moment someone with my authority audited it.

The tablet confirmed the rest. Desmond had linked Vivienne’s cards to Dad’s old profile, which is how the First Class tickets were charged to a corporate account she was never allowed to touch. The security director told her federal investigators were waiting at the gate. She called it jealous lies, but the recording and the payment trail spoke louder than she did. Chloe, who had known nothing about the money, sank into her seat and began to cry.

The plane returned to the terminal, and Vivienne and Desmond were taken away that evening. Within months, both pleaded guilty and agreed to repay every dollar, selling Vivienne’s lake house to cover it. I offered Chloe a choice between her mother’s lies and a job of her own, and she chose the job, starting on the ground crew that spring. Dad’s last line was for me alone: he had never doubted I could carry the airline. I slept peacefully that night for the first time since he died.
