What The Forensic Investigator Found Hidden In Those Old Documents Changed My Life And My Sister’s2

Martin worked for six weeks, with Edna paying his retainer from her late husband’s savings, which she insisted was an investment in justice. He traced every payment, recovered deleted emails, and found a recording from a boardroom meeting where Vanessa joked about “framing the quiet one.” He built a case file that was so clear that a prosecutor, reading it over a weekend, called him on Monday and asked to meet in person.

The prosecutor reopened my case, and a judge vacated my conviction within three months. Gregory and Vanessa were arrested at the same time, at the house I once owned, still wearing their pajamas. The gray sedan had belonged to a private investigator whom Gregory had hired to watch me, and he cooperated within a day. I stood outside the courtroom, in a new navy dress Edna had bought me, and she took my hand.

At sentencing, Vanessa looked at me for the first time in five years. She said she had been jealous of the company, of the way our father had trusted me, and of everything I had built. I told her I understood jealousy, and that it was no excuse. She received eleven years, and Gregory received nine. The court ordered restitution, and I recovered most of my company, along with the watch, which a bailiff placed in my palm.

I rebuilt Hoosier Medical Supply with Martin as my financial officer, and I hired women released from prison for half of my staff. Edna lives in the guest house now, and I still make her chicken soup on Sundays. On the day my record was cleared, she took the old notice down from the grocery store board, framed it, and hung it in my office, where I see it every morning.
