What Waited Behind My Front Door That Morning Left My Ex And His Mistress Speechless2

Ms. Okafor explained it calmly. The house, the BMW, and even the watch were registered to my company, and Colin had signed an acknowledgment of that on our wedding day. I had signed nothing but the separation statement, so his property settlement was worthless. Colin shouted that he was still my husband. She answered that the divorce would be final in sixty days, and he would leave with nothing but his own clothes.

Then she turned to the statement. For two years, the forty-two hundred dollars I sent each month had never reached Pamela and Roy. Colin had redirected it into an account only he controlled, and he had spent it on Tessa’s apartment, her trips, and the baby’s furniture. Roy, whom Ms. Okafor had quietly called the night before, stood at the end of the driveway, stunned. His insurance had covered every treatment, and he had never asked for a cent.

Tessa listened to all of it with the baby in her arms. She admitted Colin had told her he was wealthy, and she had believed him. She apologized to me, handed Colin his car keys, and walked to her sister’s car without looking back. The property manager watched Colin carry out two boxes of clothes, while Roy, ashamed, offered to repay every dollar his son had stolen.

Colin pleaded guilty to fraud and was ordered to make full restitution, and he lost his job within a month. Pamela apologized in a long, honest letter, and I answered it kindly. I kept the house, repainted the walls, and used part of the recovered money to start a scholarship for single mothers in technology. Tessa and I now speak politely, and she lets me hold the baby.
